What Is a Trading Strategy?

A trading strategy is a structured plan or set of rules that a trader follows to decide:

  1. When to enter a trade (buy or sell)

  2. When to exit a trade (take profit or stop loss)

  3. How much to risk on each trade

It helps remove emotions from trading and improves consistency by relying on logic, analysis, and repetition.

What Makes Up a Trading Strategy?

  1. Market Condition

    • Trending or ranging?

    • What timeframe are you trading on?

  2. Entry Rules

    • What do you need to see to take a trade?

    • Example: “I enter when price breaks structure and pulls back to a key zone.”

  3. Exit Rules

    • Where do you take profit?

    • Where do you put your stop loss?

  4. Risk Management

    • How much of your account do you risk per trade? (e.g., 1%)

  5. Indicators or Tools

    • Do you use RSI, EMAs, Fibonacci, etc.?

    • Or do you trade purely on price action?
